Heavy Haul Permits

Heavy haul permits are governed by Traffic Bylaw No. 1946. This Bylaw regulates maximum dimensions and weight restrictions for roadways throughout our City.

Schedule A of Bylaw No. 1946 establishes the heavy vehicle routes in the City.

Fees

Permits are required for each individual truck. High volume permits are available. For more information about a high-volume permit call 306-445-1700.

  • Daily: $20
  • Seasonal (April 15 to November 15): $3,000
  • Annual: $6,000

Payment

Vehicles over 47,000 Kg require a permit to operate off the Heavy Haul Route.

If you need to buy a permit for a vehicle over 47,000 Kg you have three options.

You can pay online with:

Come to City Hall, 1291-101st Street to make payment. We are open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed for statutory holidays.

We accept payment by:

  1. Cash
  2. Cheque
  3. Money order
  4. Debit card

Call 306-445-1700 to make payment. We are open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed for statutory holidays.

We will issue an invoice for the permit.

Exceptions

All vehicles over 9,000 Kg are required to follow the Heavy Haul Route unless:

  • Making a collection or delivery
  • Performing a service
  • Proceeding to or from the business premises of the owner or operator of the heavy vehicle
  • Proceeding to or from a garage for the purpose of repairs, servicing, refueling or storage
  • Being operated in the service of the City
  • Under escort by a marked vehicle operated by a member of the RCMP or the Department of Public Works and Engineering of the City, pursuant to a valid Temporary Street Use permit

Fines

Operators are required to follow the Bylaw and must be able to provide proof of business while off the Heavy Haul Route, and shall produce their permit, if required.

  • $500 and higher, fine for being off the Heavy Haul Route without sufficient information
  • $1,000 and higher, fine for trucks over 47,000 Kg operating off the Heavy Haul Route without a permit
