History
Since 1989 the Allen Sapp Gallery has been the crown jewel of North Battleford. Located in the City's old Carnegie Library, built in 1916, the award-winning gallery attracts individuals from all over the world. The heart of the gallery is the artwork of renowned Cree artist Allen Sapp, who has received international acclaim and won numerous awards and distinctions, including The Order of Canada and The National Aboriginal Lifetime Achievement Award. Sapp's paintings masterfully depict Indigenous culture, the simple elegance of rural life, and the beauty of Saskatchewan. A donation of Sapp's works by Dr. Allan Gonor and his wife Ruth Gonor comprises the foundation of the art collection at the Gallery.
Educational Opportunities
The Allen Sapp Gallery – The Gonor Collection is a significant presence in the Saskatchewan arts and culture scene because of the work of Allen Sapp and the gallery's continuous efforts to support local artists and their work. The Allen Sapp Gallery aims to increase a greater understanding of Indigenous culture, tradition, ceremony, and art through its exhibitions, programs, and special events and we value our strong relationships with local Elders and Knowledge Keepers in exploring the narratives and social relations depicted in the paintings of Allen Sapp. The Gallery provides tours to schools and groups and frequently hosts art classes for learners of all ages, and hosts larger community gatherings. Visit the Allen Sapp Gallery -Healing Garden and Pollinator Garden that features the biodiversity of plants from the plains. A colourful oasis of native plants that attract bees, butterflies, moths, and pollinators of all kinds, critical for sustaining our environment.

Art Exhibitions
The Chapel Gallery showcases the artistic heritage of our region, and by doing so we host numerous exhibitions featuring work of emerging artists from around the prairies and Canada. Two exhibitions are presented simultaneously in the Main Gallery, and in the Window Gallery, which runs 4–8 weeks in duration depending on the exhibition. Be sure to check out the great view of the North Saskatchewan River from the patio of The Chapel Gallery. It's a breathtaking sight that compliments every visit to The Chapel Gallery in North Battleford!
Exhibition Receptions
Exhibition Receptions are held every 6–8 weeks and offer an opportunity to gather, communicate, and learn more about the current art scene. It's a place to meet new people, gather with friends, and take a beautiful break from our busy lives to enjoy art. Our exhibition receptions are informal and are "come and go". We have created a very welcoming environment that features artist talks, live music, and refreshments. These receptions are a great chance to have a night out on the town and experience some arts and culture in your community! Everyone is welcome and it is free to attend. Refreshments are by donation.
The Chapel Gallery is occasionally closed due to private rentals. For more information or to inquire about renting the Gallery, please call the Allen Sapp Gallery at 306-445-1760.
