Community Safety Strategy

With funding support from the Government of Saskatchewan, the City of North Battleford and consulting firm MNP worked with regional stakeholders to develop this proactive Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan for the next five years.

Key community partners – including government agencies, Indigenous partners, frontline service providers, and charitable organizations serving the vulnerable sectors in the Battlefords – worked together in a number of sessions to develop this Plan which was approved by North Battleford City Council during the March 25, 2024 Council Meeting.

This 2024 to 2028 Community Safety & Wellbeing Plan will serve as a road map focusing on community wellness as the City of North Battleford works to improve the overall health and safety of the region. Where previous strategies focused on enforcement (reactive), this multipronged wellbeing plan outlines a guide to suppress and prevent crime (proactive).

The four key areas of focus for this plan include:

  • Mental Health & Substance Use
  • Housing
  • Youth Supports
  • Community Engagement

Among the goals for the first two years of the plan’s implementation are:

  • The hiring of a Community Safety & Wellbeing Coordinator to serve as a liaison between service agencies and the region
  • The establishment of a sobering centre and a 24-hour drop-in centre
  • A needs assessment to outline housing demands within the community/region
  • Targeted outreach for youth to provide education about services and programming available to them

The City of North Battleford thanks participating individuals and organizations for their expertise and guidance in the creation of this plan.
