Deputy Returning Officer (DRO)

Make a positive contribution to our community by helping ensure the 2026 Municipal & School Board election runs smoothly.
We need Deputy Returning Officers to:
- Show strong teamwork; each working alongside other Election Officials assigned to the polling location
- Work effectively at your own station
- Verify voter identification referencing the Voter’s list or confirm completion of Voter Registration forms, issue appropriate ballots, provide clear instructions to voters on how to vote
- Keep track of ballots issued and ensure you successfully balance your forms and account for all ballots provided
- Assist voters with casting their ballot
- Ensure the secrecy of the ballot is maintained
- Assist with poll closing activities
DROs must remain non-partisan on all political views until after the day of the election. You must have the ability to strictly observe secrecy with respect to any and all knowledge that may come into the Election Official’s possession.
Hours of work are approximately 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Regular Poll and vary at Advance and Special Polls.
Applicants must be available and committed to working the following dates: from
- Wednesday, January 14th, 2026, 2-8pm
- Saturday, January 17th, 2026, 12-6pm
- Wednesday, January 21st, 2026, 8am-9pm (possibly a bit longer)
Remuneration: Regular Poll and Advance Polls - $305
- Training will be held before the first advance poll January 14, 2026, starting at 12:30 p.m.
