Composting

Free drop off

You can drop off your compost material for free at the Waste Management Facility (WMF). When you get there, tell the scale house attendant that you have compost materials, and they'll direct you to the compost pile.

Accepted compost material includes:

  • Grass clippings
  • Leaves
  • Garden waste

Items that are not accepted as compost at the WMF:

  • Branches
  • Twigs thicker than a pen
  • Paper and paper products
  • Food scraps

Compost pick up

If you would like a green bin for compost pickup, please contact Loraas Environmental. They offer a pre-paid residential compost collection program from May-October.

Compost collection program

Before the end of October, we offer city residents a free compost collection program each year. Program guidelines:

  • Place your compost material in see-through bags or paper yard waste bags

  • Bags may only contain leaves, grass clippings, and garden waste

  • Branches are not accepted, and twigs thicker than a pen are not accepted

  • Unlimited number of bags residents can be left for pickup

  • Bags should be left on the boulevard, not streets or sidewalks

  • Compost is collected from streets on that street's designated parking restriction day

  • Drop compost off for free at the WMF if you can't take part in the compost collection program
