Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator
Full-Time
The City of North Battleford has a full-time Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator position available in the Treatment Plant division. The Wastewater Treatment Plant is responsible for ensuring the treatment of the City’s sewage and protecting the public and the environment from untreated raw sewage.
Reporting to the Wastewater Supervisor, operators are required to carry out the general work routine at the wastewater treatment plant in accordance with Provincial regulations and permit requirements. The primary function is the sewage lift, treatment, and discharge back into the environment of the septage wastewater generated by the residents of the City of North Battleford which encompasses day-to-day maintenance, laboratory tests, administration, special studies.
Qualifications
• Grade 12 or G.E.D. or equivalent.
• Graduate of Water Resources Engineering Technology, or other Post-Secondary education in Engineering or Natural/General sciences from an accredited institution an asset.
• Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board, Wastewater Treatment Class 1; or ability to attain through reciprocity.
• Journeyperson, Technician and Apprentice courses in electrical, plumbing, millwright, or instrumentation an asset.
• Completion of Saskatchewan Construction Safety Association “Rights and Responsibilities” will be considered an asset.
• Valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Vehicle Operator’s License.
• New hires must pass a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus Fit Test within the 6 months probationary period and bi-annually thereafter.
• Eligibility for certification with Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologists and Technicians (SASTT) as an Applied Science Technologist (A.Sc.T.) or other professional certification is an asset.
• Provide a satisfactory criminal record check upon hire.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Operate and monitor computerized control systems and related equipment in a Class 4 Biological nutrient removal wastewater plant.
• Start-up and shut down wastewater treatment facilities as well as making periodical operation checks of plant and sewage lift stations equipment such as pumping systems, chemical feeders, auxiliary equipment, quality monitoring and control systems.
• Collect representative wastewater samples and perform laboratory tests on samples for sewage lift and treatment facilities as required to monitor the collection and treatment processes to meet the City’s Permit to Operate requirements.
• Make periodical operation checks of sewage lifts and treatment plant equipment such as pumping systems, chemical feeders, auxiliary equipment, measuring and control systems.
• Assist with preventive maintenance, such as lubrication, operating adjustments, cleaning, and painting equipment.
• Perform corrective maintenance on plant mechanical equipment (i.e. chemical feed pump, analyzers, and small mechanical units).
