Ref # HTL001 - Head Team Leader - Full-Time - CUPE

The Head Team Leader supervises the delivery of programs and activities of the Battlefords CO-OP Aquatic Centre. This role contributes to providing overall leadership to the Battlefords CO-OP Aquatic Centre staff and is responsible for outcomes in the following key activities: contributing to the development of and implementation of aquatics guidelines and procedures; maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for patrons and staff; implementation and recommendation of programs, services and activities that are responsive to community needs; staff development and daily facility operations and maintenance. This position demonstrates leadership and team-building skills combined with strong communication, planning, and customer service.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrate a minimum of two years of experience in the Lifeguard and Swim Instructor role.
  • Demonstrate a combination of at least two years of supervisory experience and training.
  • Grade 12 or G.E.D. or equivalent.
  • National Lifeguard Certification - Lifesaving Society.
  • Obtain the following qualifications within 18 months:
    • First Aid Instructor
    • Lifesaving Instructor (LSI) Certification
    • Valid First Aid/CPR - C/AED Certification
    • National Lifeguard (NLS) Instructor
    • O2 Provider (an asset)
    • Saskatchewan Pool I Operator Certificate

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead staff in the safe and proper operation of the facility.
  • Serve as the aquatics subject matter expert, and demonstrate knowledge and ability by instructing various Lifesaving Society Courses (Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, National Lifeguard, Swim for Life).
  • Perform custodial and operational tasks.
  • Perform water quality tests.
  • Responsible for providing a high standard of aquatic training, emergency care, and provision of first aid.
  • Recognize and respond to emergencies through knowledge and application of lifeguard surveillance and rescue techniques.
  • Instruct aquatic programs and provide direct program and event leadership, including lifeguarding duties in a wide variety of aquatic-based recreation programs.
  • Assist in the creation, planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation of aquatic programs and special events.
  • Perform a variety of administrative tasks, including front desk support (cross-training) and assistance and maintenance of a variety of program reports and records.

Rate of Pay:

$23.77 per hour (CUPE 2024 Rates)          

Hours of Work:

8 hrs/day; 40 hrs/week; rotating schedule within recreational programming.
