City’s UPAR projects set to begin next week

With summer just around the corner, the City of North Battleford began issuing notices this week to residents and property owners in the areas where significant infrastructure upgrades will occur in the coming weeks and months.

The City’s Underground Pipe and Asphalt Replacement (UPAR) projects in 2023 will feature a four-block section of 98th Street and continued work on 12th Avenue downtown. The 12th Avenue project is tentatively scheduled for construction from June 5-30, 2023.

The 98th Street upgrades are considered “major” and will take place from the 1100 block to the 15th Avenue intersection, tentatively scheduled between June 19th and September 8th, 2023. A block-by-block schedule has been provided to residents in the neighbourhood and is posted on the City’s website.

Upgrades to 98th Street will include:

  • Water main replacement
  • Sanitary sewer main replacement
  • Water and sanitary sewer services replacement
  • Storm sewer upgrades
  • Concrete replacement as required, including curbs, gutters, accessible crossings at corners, lane accesses, sideway and driveway accesses on public property
  • Tree planting
  • Restoration of grass in boulevards

The City of North Battleford has provided residents of the impacted neighbourhoods with  advanced notice of the project, including cost details about mandatory lead service line replacement, alternate waste management pickup information, and how access to properties will be limited during the construction period. If residents or property owners have not received communication from the City regarding the UPAR upgrades in their area, they are encouraged to call or text 306-441-0359 immediately to establish if or how this work may impact them.

City Administration will host a 2023 UPAR information session at the North Battleford Public Library on Wednesday, June 7th from 4:30-6:30pm. Further bi-weekly UPAR progress updates will continue for the public by Zoom after the initial in-person session.

All project details are available on the City’s dedicated UPAR webpage, including a project timeline which will be updated as work progresses.

The City of North Battleford understands that lengthy construction projects, though necessary, can cause  frustration, particularly for property owners in the areas undergoing improvements. The City thanks the public for its patience and cooperation and encourages community members to reach out with any questions or concerns.
