Voting dates quickly approaching for 2026 Municipal By-Election
As the five candidates vying for one vacant City Councillor seat continue campaigning for the upcoming municipal By-Election, voters can choose from one of three upcoming days to head to the polls.
Advance polls will be held on Wednesday, January 14th from 2-8pm and Saturday, January 17th from 12-6pm. Meanwhile, the By-Election Day polls will be held on Wednesday, January 21st from 9am-8pm. All polls will be located at the Chapel Gallery.
Registered Voters List
This By-Election will again use an electronic registered voters list compiled by Elections Saskatchewan. If there has been a change in a voter’s information (for example, a name or address change), revisions can be made at the polls with Elections NB staff members. If a voter wishes to confirm their information is correct on the voters list, they may contact the Returning Officer at City Hall by calling 306-445-1700.
Identification for Eligible Voters and Voter Eligibility
All voters must bring one piece of identification with them to the polls. The Local Government Elections Act outlines several types of identification which will be accepted by Elections NB poll workers. Voters are considered eligible to cast a ballot in this By-Election if they are 18 years or older as of January 21, 2026, if they are a Canadian citizen, if they have resided in Saskatchewan for at least six months prior to the By-Election date, and if they have been a resident of North Battleford for at least three consecutive months prior to the By-Election date.
Persons who have owned assessable land [registered in the individual’s name, not as a corporation or business] for at least three consecutive months prior to the By-Election date are also considered eligible to vote.
Ballot Accounting
The By-Election ballots will be counted by hand and not an electronic voting machine. With the polls closing at 8pm on January 21st, 2026, it is anticipated that the counting process may take between 1.5 and 2 hours, depending on the volume of votes cast. Results of the By-Election will be distributed to candidates and their authorized agents, the media, and members of the public once the Returning Officer declares the outcome.
