Utility billing for North Battleford property owners will switch from quarterly to monthly in 2026

During the City’s proposed 2026 Budget discussions, Finance Director Margarita Pena advised that the City’s Utility Department would be making the move from billing consumers for water, sewer, and garbage collections every three months to monthly.

The change, which will impact property owners, is possible due to the recent implementation of smart water meter systems by the City. In lieu of manual meter reading, consumption data is now automatically available for utility clerks, creating a less onerous process to reconcile monthly usage for billing.

“This change will simplify payment tracking, especially for those on a quarterly cycle who may lose track of their billing schedule and inadvertently miss payments,” commented Pena. “Monthly billing provides a more consistent and manageable bill payment process.”

The proposed transition schedule to monthly billing is as follows:

·         Killdeer & West, which are scheduled to receive a utility bill in January 2026 for the months of October, November, and December – proposed monthly billing would commence in February 2026 for the period of January 2026

·         Fairview Heights & Confederation Park, which are scheduled to receive a utility bill in February 2026 for the months of November, December, and January – proposed monthly billing would commence in March 2026 for the period of February 2026

·         Riverview Heights, College Heights, Commercial & Industrial Properties, which are scheduled to receive a utility bill in March 2026 for the months of December, January, and February – proposed monthly billing would commence in April 2026 for the period of March 2026

Pena noted that a processing charge of $2 is being considered as an addition to bills sent by mail in 2026 to offset an increase in costs for the changed billing frequency. To avoid this added expense, customers are encouraged to sign up for e-billing at their earliest opportunity by email, by calling City Hall at 306-445-1700, or at this link.
