Public welcomed at NBFD-hosted Sask Volunteer Firefighters Association Spring Training events this weekend

Residents of North Battleford may see a few more fire trucks and firefighters (along with a bit more smoke) around the community this weekend – but it’s not cause for concern. The North Battleford Fire Department’s Training Grounds are one of the host venues for the Saskatchewan Volunteer Firefighters Association Spring Training events, slated for April 26-28, 2024.

It's anticipated about 300 firefighters from across the province will be in attendance, with significant involvement from the North Battleford Fire Department as trainers for a number of the courses.

On Saturday and Sunday, a number of outdoor training exercises will be taking place at the Training Grounds off Airport Road. Spectators and members of the media are welcome to come out and watch. On-site personnel will be directing civilians in attendance to a safely cordoned-off area from which the exercises may be viewed. Attendees are asked to obey all directions provided in the interest of their safety and to park along Airport Road and walk into the grounds through the gates.

Training Exercises include:

  • High-angle rescue
  • Aerial Apparatus Operations
  • Two live fire events – one at the beginner level, and one will be advanced flashover survival training
  • Vehicle fires
  • Heavy Vehicle Extrication
