Community Safety Officers make after hours impact on city streets during busy weekend

Although snowy conditions prevailed over the weekend, local roadways experienced significant traffic, attributed in part to the community rodeo event. The City of North Battleford’s Community Safety Officers (CSOs) assisted Battlefords RCMP with enhanced enforcement efforts, participating in a targeted traffic operation on Saturday evening.

The CSO files included:

  • Six tickets issued under the provincial Traffic Safety Act
    • One ticketed driver was found to be travelling 145 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone. This resulted in a 7-day licence suspension, a 30-day vehicle impoundment, an a fine of $966.

  • Ten warnings issued under the provincial Traffic Safety Act

  • Nine roadside alcohol screening tests administered, with seven passes and two fails
    • The two drivers who failed the roadside alcohol screening tests were both under the age of 21, resulting in 60-day licence suspensions and 3-day vehicle impoundments with significant financial penalties.

In addition to their duties in traffic enforcement, CSOs supported operations at the Access Communications Centre by assisting with crowd management and the closure of the rodeo dance event in response to safety concerns.

North Battleford Community Safety Officers not only enforce all City Bylaws, but they are also authorized to uphold 13 different Provincial Statutes. Community Safety Officers (CSOs) regularly collaborate with Battlefords RCMP and Citizens on Patrol at various times to enhance community enforcement efforts.
