City Councillor tenders resignation August 18; municipal by-election to take place in North Battleford
Citing personal reasons, North Battleford City Councillor Ross MacAngus tendered his resignation from City Council today. Council voted to receive MacAngus’s resignation during Monday night’s City Council meeting.
MacAngus was elected to City Council for a second term on November 13, 2024. The resignation from Council means a municipal by-election is triggered to fill the vacancy. The City’s Returning Officer, Stacey Hadley, advised Council during Monday night’s meeting that pursuant to The Local Government Election Act, the City of North Battleford has up to six months after the vacancy occurs to hold the by-election to fill the open seat, and that a proposed by-election date will be brought forward to the Regular Council Meeting to be held September 8, 2025.
Councillor MacAngus will remain in his role as Councillor until August 31st, 2025. Following this, the seat will remain open until a new candidate is elected and sworn in.
