By-election for vacant City Councillor seat set for January 21, 2026
With a vacant City Councillor seat effective August 31, 2025, Council approved a by-election date during the Regular Council Meeting on Monday night. Voters will head to the polls on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
Returning Officer Stacey Hadley outlined the process for the by-election, advising it is similar to a typical Municipal Election. “By-elections often bring fewer voters to the polls, but requires the same processes, oversight, and procedures as a regular election.”
Persons interested in running for the vacant Councillor position will need to submit their nomination packages during the official nomination period, which begins Wednesday, December 3, 2025. Completed nomination packages will need to be received by the Returning Officer at City Hall no later than 4:00pm on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. Advance polls are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, January 14, 2026, and Saturday, January 17, 2026.
