Ref # HYB2024 - Hybrid (Parks Assistant/Arena Operator) Full-Time - CUPE

The City of North Battleford has a Hybrid position available which is a 60/40 split between the Arena Operator and Parks Assistant Position; this role is under the general direction of the Director of Parks and Recreation and directly supervised by the Parks and Arena Manager. In summer months, this position assists with cemetery maintenance including operation of heavy equipment and landscape upkeep, including installation of monuments and/or memorials. Also, performs landscaping and lawn maintenance in municipal parks, and maintenance of playground equipment and surfaces. In the winter months, this position installs arena ice, operate the ice resurface in a safe and efficient manner, and ensure patrons safety.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12, G.E.D, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of grounds maintenance and /or cemetery management experience.
  • Ability to work grounds equipment and landscaping equipment such as push mowers and string trimmers an asset.
  • Ability to attain Arena Operator 1 certificate within 12 months.
  • Knowledge of ice maintenance and janitorial work an asset
  • Knowledge of essential landscaping maintenance an asset.
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems is an asset.
  • Must have a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 license (3A preferred) with a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Provide a satisfactory criminal record check with vulnerable sector upon hire.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works on all aspects of cemetery operations including setting up for internment, installation of monuments and memorials and maintaining accurate records.
  • Assists will all aspects of general parks, facilities, cemetery operation, maintenance and maintaining accurate records.
  • Operates specialized grounds maintenance and landscape machinery – lawn mowers, tractors, hand and power tools, weed eaters.
  • Daily inspection and maintenance of equipment that includes small equipment, ½, one, two and three-ton trucks, mid-sized loaders and tractors.
  • Maintain required records and documentation.
  • Install arena ice.
  • Provides operator services at the Arenas, including Zamboni operation, maintenance, communications, and minor repairs and maintenance.
  • Clear snow from sidewalks, entrances, and emergency exits.
  • Inspects and maintains playground equipment and surfaces, including tennis courts, volleyball courts, volleyball courts, volleyball nets, and soccer nets.

Parks Assistant I (2024 Wages) Year 1 $22.01 Year 2 $22.89 Year 3 $23.80 Sept 15 to April 14

Hours of Work:

Days, Evenings, and Weekends 40 hrs/week; rotating schedule within programming.
