Ref # AR001 - Arborist - Full-Time - CUPE

The City of North Battleford has an Arborist position available; this position is under the general direction of the Director of Parks and Recreation and directly supervised by the Parks and Arena Manager. This position acts as the City’s Urban Forest expert by ensuring that all work done is compliant with industry standards including back-up documentation of all work planned and completed. Assists in the development and delivery of a management plan for planting, pruning, protecting and removal programs for public trees and associated vegetation.

Qualifications

• Grade 12, G.E.D, or equivalent.
• Arborist Certificate or ISA (International Society of Arboriculture).
• Must have a valid Saskatchewan Class 3A license, (1A preferred), with a clean drivers’ abstract.
• Must have or obtain and maintain Saskatchewan Pesticide Applicators License in both Landscape and Mosquito and Biting Fly Categories.
• Experience in the care and safe operation of chain saws, motorized pole saw, brush chippers, bucket trucks, stump grinders, and associated equipment and hand tools.
• Experience climbing trees and using approved equipment and safety procedures when working at various heights.
• Experience in all types of arboricultural work including pruning, removal, bracing, stumping, planting, and fertilizing.
• Provide a satisfactory criminal record check upon hire.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain the Urban Forest inventory.
• Assist in the development and delivery of a management plan for planting, pruning, protecting and removal programs for public trees and associated vegetation.
• Provide input and recommendations on annual operating and capital budget initiatives.
• Drive/operate/inspect and ensure proper maintenance of various vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to bucket trucks, chipper, tractor/loader, backhoe, stump grinder, sprayer, fertilizers, chain saw, motorized pole saw and other associated equipment and hand tools.
• Liaise with public/clients to address worksite issues.

Rate of Pay: Arborist Year 1 $28.48 Year 2 $29.19 Year 3 $29.92 (2023 CUPE Wages)

Hours of Work: 7:00 am to 4:00 pm or 6:00 am to 3:00 pm
