When the 2022 Twinkle Tours draw to a close at the “Light Up The Night” event on December 20th, local RCMP hope the public will help make Christmas a little brighter for community members in need.

Battlefords RCMP members will be stationed at the Rotary Plaza during the event for “Cram A Cruiser”. RCMP will accept donations of urgently-needed items for the Miywasin Kikanow Shelter. Those in attendance at the event are encouraged to plan ahead and help fill the RCMP cruiser with donations, in particular, with warm clothing and personal hygiene items.

The following is a list of items the Shelter has identified that would be most helpful:

  • Winter boots*
  • Winter jackets*
  • Toques, scarves, gloves
  • Socks & undergarments (all sizes & genders)
  • Sweatpants & sweatshirts (all sizes & genders)*
  • T-shirts (all sizes & genders)*
  • Toiletries, including shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes
  • Hairbrushes & combs, hair elastics
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Blankets* & sheets, pillowcases
  • Band-Aids

*denotes that gently-used, clean items will be accepted

Please ensure donations are contained in bags or boxes for easier transport. The City of North Battleford is pleased to work with Battlefords RCMP and the staff of Miywasin Kikanow to assist with supporting our community.

“BATC is truly looking forward to a genuine and authentic partnership with the City of North Battleford [and local RCMP] as we continue to journey towards reconciliation,” commented Tania LaFontaine, CEO of Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs (BATC) Health Services. BATC assumed operations of the shelter in late 2021, with funding assistance from the Métis Nation of Saskatchewan & the City of North Battleford.

Donations will be accepted at Light Up The Night, which takes place at 6:30pm-8:00pm at the InnovationPlex Rotary Plaza. This free, family-friendly Christmas event will feature cultural performances from the region and special guests. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/CityNB.
