City Council approves adjusted 2022 Mill Rate Factors & Municipal Tax Rates at Special Council Meeting
City Council
July 25th 2022

North Battleford City Council approved adjusted 2022 Mill Rate Factors and Municipal Tax Rates during a Special Council Meeting Monday, July 25, 2022 after City Administration detected an erroneous calculation in previously-approved rates.

The initial presentation related to property taxes and Mill Rate Factors was made during City Council’s Regular Meeting on Monday, July 18, 2022.

A new bylaw, Bylaw No. 2130, was presented to Council during a Special Council Meeting held via Zoom at 12:00pm on Monday, July 25.
The impacted tax rates adjusted during the passing of Bylaw No. 2130 include:
o The Residential/condo class
o the Commercial/Industrial class
o the Multi-Unit residential/Personal Care Home subclass

These rates for an average property will be impacted in the following manner:
o Residential/condo class – a decrease of 0.55% from previously approved rate
o Commercial/Industrial class – a decrease of 2.28% from previously approved rate
o Multi-unit residential/Personal Care Home subclass – an increase of 1.86% from previously approved rate

City Administration apologized to Council and the public for this error and appreciates the sys-tem audits that are in place for these specific reasons. System audits prevented incorrect property tax notices from being distributed to the public. In an effort to avoid issues such as this in the future, City Administration has amended its internal processes.

Residents should anticipate receiving their 2022 property tax notices in the mail before July 31, 2022. Payment deadline for property taxes remains August 31, 2022.

The following options are available to pay your tax notice:
• Pay your taxes through your bank account.
• Pay by mail – Make cheques payable to the City of North Battleford. Ensure your cheque is not post-dated beyond the penalty date and is post marked before the dead-line to avoid penalties. Send it to: City of North Battleford, P.O. Box 460, North Battle-ford, Saskatchewan, S9A 2Y6.
• Pay at City Hall cashier during business hours 9:00am-4:30pm Monday to Friday.
• Pay at City Hall after business hours by dropping your cheque off in an envelope at the box located by the employee entrance (by the flags). Note that these payments will be processed the next business day. Please note that post-dated cheques will only be processed based on the cheque date and if post dated after the deadline, penalty will be added to your account.
• Pay the same amount every month. Sign up for Tax Instalment Payment Plan Service (TIPPS) at the City Hall office.

The City of North Battleford Administration apologizes for any confusion or inconvenience that this may cause and expresses its gratitude for the public’s understanding.
