Archives
Mandate: To collect, catalogue and maintain paper, documents and photographic material related to the city of North Battleford.
In 1988, the City’s 75th Anniversary Committee decided to donate $500 to start an Archives that would strive to maintain and preserve the rich cultural heritage of North Battleford. Years later a volunteer organization works in partnership with the City of North Battleford towards that goal. The City Archives is a donation based repository and is made possible due to the generosity of the citizens of North Battleford, who wish to see the history of our great City preserved.
At present, the City collection has over 10,000 pieces, including over 1100 photographs, 500 negatives and over 2 metres of textual records. The subjects covered within this material are very extensive and range in dates from the early 1900’s to the present. All items donated to the Archives are kept in a climate controlled, acid free environment that is up to the standards set out by the SCAA (Saskatchewan Council of Archives and Archivists).
Major projects currently being undertaken by the Archives include creating an electronic database that will have descriptions for every item located in the Archives. It is the hope of the Committee that eventually this database will be placed online for ease of research for everyone. Although this project is still in its infancy, the Archives does have an electronic database that is growing daily for public use!
Please enjoy the enclosed photo gallery, which is only a small portion of what the Archives contains, and we hope that you enjoy this trip down memory lane. If you are interested in donating items or researching the holdings, please contact Debbie Wohlberg, City Clerk at 445-1710 or at
