Cultural Clubs & Organizations
The City of North Battleford is a very diverse community with many different cultures, from our First Nations events to our Ukranian cultural clubs to our many French Immersion schools, who are actively involved in the community and part of our identity. The City of North Battleford encompasses a very diverse and cultural community, which makes it unique and welcoming to immigrants.
North Battleford boasts more than 150 clubs and organizations
from major service clubs to art & drama clubs, which add to the quality of living within the community. Many of these clubs represent a unique culture, showcase & preserve the history of the Battlefords, and/ or develop projects to build the community. Co-operation and a vibrant
cultural community are just a part of what makes North Battleford an exciting
place to live!
Examples of the many clubs & organizations we offer:
- Battlefords Boys & Girls Club -provides many fun activities, indoors and outdoors, for children, such as arts & crafts, games, trips and more. Thanks to community support, they now have a brand new playground and splash park.
- Battlefords Community Players - provides live entertainment with many exciting performances and shows. As well, artists and actors/ actresses have the opportunity to display their talent and become part of this club. Their purpose is to promote, maintain and present live theatre in the Battlefords, from a literacy and performing arts festival to theatre productions to theatre fests.
- Battlefords Concert Band - For those who want to learn how to play an instrument or advance their development, they offer programs for all ages and skill levels.
- Battlefords Highland Dancing Association - Preserves and extends the knowledge of Scottish culture with plays, dances and Highland Dancing at events.
- Battlefords Jazz Society - Promotes both the performance and education of Jazz and other musical styles in the Battlefords, through live musical entertainers in either cabaret style or concert and educational workshops and clinics.
- Battlefords Orchestral Training Program - Those already know how to play a stringed instrument or those who want to learn, gather together to help young players develop their skills, while helping promote orchestras or concerts in the community.
- Battlefords Photo Club - Aims to promote the art of photography in the community. Annual shows and events presents the artists work.
- Battle River Cloggers - Clogging is done with a double tap of the shoe and has grown to include people from all around the Battlefords. It came from the Appalachian Mountains and was modernized to better fit modern music.
- Battlefords Ukranian Canadian Cultural Council (BUCCC) - promotes Ukranian culture and language in the Battlefords through many ethnic projects and events.
- Big Brothers/ Big Sisters - provides the service of a "big brother" or "big sister" for those looking for a mentor or to spend some quality time with someone they can look up to. Or become a "big brother/ sister" and spend some time with a younger child. This organization has many events and fundraisers throughout the year, such as "Bowl for Kid's Sake."
- Community Schools Programs - Since First Nations peoples are a big part of our community, many of our schools, especially community schools, bring students together to learn about the First Nations culture, whether it be through singing to dancing to art.
- Filipino Association - a group that promotes the Philliphine Islands culture through many gatherings and events, such as the Filipino Christmas Party.
- Kinsmen/ Kinettes Club - an organization that is involved within the community with many fundraisers and events, such as the Annual Kinsmen Rodeo.
- North Battleford Art Club - Supports visual arts, sponsoring exhibits, workshops and visits by other artists.
- North Battleford City Kinsmen Band - a community band who mandate is to provide training on woodwind, brass and percussion instruments to youth in the Battlefords and area ages 8 to 18 years old.
- Northwest Hockey Development Association - a non-for-profit, community concession venor organization, meant to raise funds for hockey development within the Battlefords and area. They have helped fundraise for our local Junior A and AAA hockey teams, as well as Battlefords Minor Hockey.
- Rivers' Edge Quilters: The Battlefords - an active guild, from the beginner to advanced, who provide classes and stitch and sew sessions. A quilt show is hosted at the Chapel Gallery for display.
- Saskatchewan Handicraft Festival - The oldest summer craft sale in the province. The event consists of work with visual arts, craft demonstrations, children's activities and the annual touring exhibition of fine crafts.
- Svoboda Dance Association and Festival - offers Ukranian dance instruction for many ages and skill levels. Hosts an annual festival with a unique environment, providing a taste of Ukranian food, entertainment and items.
- The Battleford Quilters - The members join together for tea during their stitching, which they take orders for where the proceeds go back to the community.
- The Francophone Centre of the Battlefords - Composed of energetic and proud Francophones who main objective is to promote French language and culture.
- Western Development Museum - Houses a Heritage Farm and Village that tells a story of Saskatchewan agricultural and rural life, with many saved pioneer farm machinery and household objects.
- Zorya Dancers - offers recreational Ukranian dance instruction for adults ranging in age from 19-90, which is involved within many performances for various community events.
